Here at St George’s Academy we encourage our students to use the Internet, as it is a fabulous tool and constant source of information. As a school we want students to explore and utilise the internet at every opportunity as we are living in an age where we are becoming more and more dependent on the Internet and as a result we want our young people to become confident users of it.
However, we also understand that the Internet can be a dangerous place and we feel that it is or duty to protect and educate our students. The Internet is accessed in school with the protection of monitoring and filtering software, however we can’t control how students use the Internet outside of school. What we can do is to make everybody aware of the dangers and pitfalls of the Internet and that includes you as parents too.
Through speaking to the students about their Internet habits, we have come to understand that young people are using the Internet during the majority of their free time, with a high proportion of children using mobile technology.
