Art and Design teacher – Mrs R Baker
Art and Design at St George’s provides our students with an opportunity to explore their creativity and develop their design skills. If you are a budding artist, a GCSE in Art can lead you to further or higher education, or a creative career in fashion, architecture, design and animation. Even if you don’t see yourself as the next Banksy or Picasso, many students find art lessons a great opportunity to express themselves creatively and enjoy a different style of working.
Our Art Teacher, Mrs Baker studied at the London Institute, Birmingham Institute of Art and Design, and Birmingham City University. Her favourite artists are Jenny Saville, Vincent Van Gogh and Anthony Gormley. She enjoys painting and mixed media, as well as working with fabric and textiles.
How Parents Can Help
Success in Art GCSE relies on a large body of developed work, so encouraging your child to research and sketch at home will help them to achieve. Family trips to galleries, taking artistic photographs whilst out and about, and watching art programmes on TV all support your child to develop their contextual knowledge of the subject.
